Japan Catholic Center
LandmarkNovember 1992 – present
Draft translation
An eight-storey building housing the secretariat of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Japan, completed in November 1992 on the former site of the Ants' Society.
The secretariat of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Japan (カトリック中央協議会) used to be in an old three-storey building in Rokubanchō, Chiyoda-ku, right beside Futaba Gakuen. It moved in 1992 and is now in the eight-storey Japan Catholic Center (日本カトリック会館, completed November 1992) in Shiomi. The address is Shiomi 2-10-10, a five-minute walk from JR Shiomi Station.
According to the Tokyo Archdiocese News (2004), the building was built on the former site of the Ants' Society. The Bishops' Conference has not stated why it chose Shiomi. Next door is Shiomi Church, associated with the Venerable Satoko Kitahara.
The organisation took the name カトリック中央協議会 in 1952, the year after the Religious Corporations Act was promulgated and came into force in 1951.
