Shiomi Station opens on the JR Keiyō Line

On 10 March 1990 (Heisei 2), Shiomi Station opened when the Keiyō Line's Tokyo–Shin-Kiba section opened.

On this day the Keiyō Line's section between Tokyo and Shin-Kiba stations opened, completing the line, and Hatchōbori, Etchūjima and Shiomi stations opened. On the same day, Etchūjima station on the Etchūjima freight branch was renamed Etchūjima Freight Station to distinguish it from the Keiyō Line's Etchūjima station (Wikipedia). Kōtō-ku's chronology likewise records "JR Keiyō Line (Shin-Kiba – Tokyo) opened" in March 1990.

According to Wikipedia, the opening of the station set off rapid development of apartment housing and the opening of company offices in Shiomi.
