No. 8 Reclaimed Land joins Kōtō-ku as Shiomi

On 30 January 1968 (Shōwa 43), No. 8 Reclaimed Land was annexed by Kōtō-ku and became Shiomi 1-chōme and 2-chōme.

Kōtō-ku's description of its place names reads: "Shiomi: on 30 January Shōwa 43, No. 8 Reclaimed Land was annexed to the ward. The Shuto Expressway Route 9 passes through it, there is the Shiomi ground, and it is a place where the scent of the tide drifts." According to Table 3 of "Kōtō-ku no Ayumi", the area is 218,311 m² for 1-chōme and 282,795 m² for 2-chōme, 501,106 m² in all.

Wikipedia writes that until then No. 8 Reclaimed Land "belonged to no ward and was 'unnumbered land' (番外地) with no formal address". The same article gives the date of annexation as "30 February 1968", but 30 February does not exist and this is an error. The ward's description does not say directly why the name Shiomi was chosen.
